Review of the Gateway DX4831-01e

Buying a new computer can at first seem like an overwhelming experience. There are so many quality personal computers on the market today. In particular, there are a wide range of desktops available at nearly every price point. One good choice is the Gateway DX4831-01e, which was recently named a CNET Editors' Choice.

Priced at $550, the Gateway DX4831 is a midtower desktop PC that comes equipped with a 2.93 GHz Intel Core i3 processor, 6 GB of DDR SDRAM memory, a 32 MB Intel GMA HD integrated graphics card, 1 TB hard drive, a dual-layer DVD burner, a 10/100 Ethernet LAN, Gigabit Ethernet, and the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. It also features a variety of connections, including HDMI video output as well as eight USB ports and an optical S/PDIF audio input.

One of the key features that sets the Gateway DX4831 apart from its competitors is its Intel Core i3 processor. With the ability to enable two additional cores when needed, thus functioning as a quad-core processor, the updated Intel Core i3 provides faster CPU performance than other desktops in this class. The Gateway DX4851 also consumes less power than similar desktops.

On the downside, the Gateway DX 4851 lacks a wireless card, and there is no room for a full-size graphics card. In addition, the tower size can be a bit large for most living room desks, making it a tad inconvenient.

Overall, the Gateway DC4831-01e is a good choice for budget consumers who want a PC that offers solid performance with room for upgrading.
